The grain industry’s strength comes from shared commitments, Grain Growers of Canada said

With Feb. 10 celebrated as Canada’s Agriculture Day across the country, Farms.com reached out to members of the ag industry to deliver messages to fellow farmers, and to the consumers who rely on Canadian farmers.

Grain Growers of Canada’s (GGC) message to other farmers highlights resilience and a commitment to producing high quality food.

“Ag Day is a moment to recognize the essential role grain farmers play in feeding Canada and supporting global food systems. Grain producers operate in a highly competitive, export-oriented environment, managing risk from weather volatility, market uncertainty, transportation challenges, and shifting trade dynamics,” the organization told Farms.com. “Despite these pressures, Canadian grain farmers continue to innovate and deliver high-quality crops that are trusted around the world.

“Our message is one of appreciation and unity. The strength of our sector comes from a shared commitment to producing reliable, high-quality grain and working collectively to ensure Canadian agriculture remains competitive, resilient, and positioned for long-term success.”

To consumers, GGC’s message reflects the layers of agricultural production.

Behind every farm is an extensive supply chain supporting the industry.

“Canadian agriculture is built on strong standards, science-based practices, and responsible stewardship of land and resources. Grain farmers are constantly adapting, using innovation and technology to produce crops efficiently and responsibly,” the organization said.

“Behind every product is a coordinated supply chain that includes producers, researchers, transportation partners, and exporters working together to deliver safe, reliable food. Consumers can have confidence that Canadian farmers are deeply invested in transparency, innovation, and ensuring that Canada remains a trusted supplier of high-quality food both domestically and globally.”

David Wiens, a Manitoba dairy farmer and president of Dairy Farmers of Canada, wants everyone in the ag supply chain to be proud of their contributions.

“On Canada’s Agriculture Day, we’re celebrating more than just a vital industry. We’re saluting the thousands of dedicated, innovative, and resilient farmers working across the nation to put food on our tables, fuel our economy, and build vibrant rural communities,” he told Farms.com. “As a Canadian farmer, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together and look forward to continuing to build a strong, shared future.”

Wiens also wants consumers to know they can choose Canadian products with confidence.

And buying domestic food supports all of Canada.

“Proudly choosing Canadian food means a stronger Canada. Canadians are at the heart of everything we do as dairy farmers,” he said. “We produce milk under some of the highest standards in the world, so Canadians can be confident in the food they are feeding their families today and for generations to come.”

Emil Bromley, a cattle producer from Renfrew, Ont., hopes farmers remember that while they may produce different commodities, farmers support one another.

“On Canadian Ag Day, we are reminded that regardless of the sector we work in—livestock, grain, dairy, horticulture, or others—we are all united by a shared commitment to agriculture,” she told Farms.com in an email. “While each industry faces its own challenges, the strength of Canadian agriculture comes from mutual support, collaboration, and respect across all sectors. By continuing to stand together and support one another, we help ensure a strong and sustainable future for agriculture in Canada.”

And to consumers, Bromley wants to express that Canadian farmers care deeply about the food they produce as it’s the same food their families eat.

“Canadian farmers care deeply for their animals, their land, and the families they feed every day. They are committed to responsible stewardship, animal welfare, and sustainable practices that protect the land for future generations,” she said. “With pride and purpose, farmers work year-round to produce safe, high-quality food, guided by the understanding that their work directly impacts the well-being of their communities and families across the country.”
