Bayer to acquire HyTech’s canola facility in Alberta

Bayer CropScience Inc. is set to enhance its canola production capabilities with the acquisition of a canola treating and packaging facility in Coaldale, AB, from HyTech Production Ltd. This strategic move, anticipated to finalize on November 1, marks a significant step in Bayer’s efforts to expand and streamline its canola business operations.

The facility’s acquisition is designed to support an expected increase in canola volume, providing Bayer with increased control and efficiency from production to packaging.

Antoine Bernet, President and CEO of Bayer CropScience Inc., emphasized the acquisition’s strategic importance, saying, “With an expected increase in canola volume, the facility is perfectly located and designed to support Bayer’s Canola business today as well as enable future growth.”

The integration of this facility will help Bayer optimize its canola production process, which is part of a larger infrastructure that includes sites in Cranbrook, BC, and Lethbridge, AB.

By bringing these operations under one umbrella, Bayer aims to enhance its service and supply chain for canola hybrids, directly benefiting the farmers who use their products.

HyTech Production Ltd. will continue to operate its remaining assets and maintain its hybrid seed production capabilities, focusing on quality and innovation in seed production to provide long-term value to its customers.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, but once completed, the facility’s HyTech employees will be integrated into Bayer’s workforce, ensuring a seamless transition and continued operational excellence in canola treatment and packaging.
