Funding supports modernization milk quality and farm sustainability

Dairy farmers across the Northeast have a new opportunity to strengthen and modernize their operations through the Dairy Farm Improvement & Modernization Grant, launched by the Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC). The $750,000 grant fund supports projects aimed at improving farm viability, milk quality, labor conditions, economic stability, and climate resilience.

Eligible applicants include dairy farmers, producer associations, and milk processors across the 11-state Northeast region, including Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Maryland, and Rhode Island.

Grants will range from $15,000 to $100,000, requiring a 25% in-kind or cash match. The program seeks projects that take a system-wide approach, demonstrate collaboration with technical experts, and focus on sustainable long-term improvements.

Priority areas include feed and nutrition management, animal health and comfort, milking system upgrades, labor efficiency, farm transition planning, cooperative milk production, and young farmer engagement. Projects limited to equipment replacement without broader benefits will not qualify.

Applications are open from October 14 to December 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. The complete application details and eligibility guidelines are available at nedairyinnovation.com

The NE-DBIC, hosted by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets and funded through the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service, continues to promote innovation and resilience across the regional dairy sector. Its goal is to strengthen local milk production, ensure quality standards, and enhance the long-term competitiveness of the Northeast dairy industry.
