Farm Power: Massey Ferguson tractor tops BigIron auction

An online auction hosted by BigIron Auctions on May 25 was highlighted by a tractor selling for more than $115,000.

The sale topper was a 2011 Massey Ferguson 8690 tractor, which sold for $120,250.

Specs: 2,164 hours showing, 290 PTO HP, SISU 8.4L 6 cylinder diesel engine, Dyna-VT CVT transmission with LH shuttle, 5 hydraulic remotes, 3 pt. hitch with quick hitch, 1000 PTO, clevis and straight drawbar, front duals: 420/85R34, rear duals: 480/80R50, 24 front suitcase weights.

A 2010 Gleaner R76 combine sold for $115,750.

Specs: 1,148 engine hours showing, 809.4 separator hours showing, SISU 84 CTA Tier III engine, 4 speed transmission with hydro, 350 horsepower @ 1900 RPM, 375 horsepower with power bulge, 30.5 x 32 front tires, 480/80 x R26 rear tires, single point hydraulic and electrical plug, Field Star II, 330 bu grain tank capacity, reversing engine fan.

A 2012 New Holland T8.330 tractor sold for $114,251.

Significant populations of grassweeds, including ryegrass and brome, can threaten winter wheat yields. Spring applications of a contact graminicide, such as Broadway Star from Corteva Agriscience, can clear problem weeds, allowing crops to grow away in the spring.

Broadway Star (pyroxsulam + florasulam) controls ryegrass, sterile brome, wild oats and a range of broad-leaved weeds such as cleavers. It can be applied to winter wheat up until GS32, but the earlier the application is made, the smaller the weed, and the greater the benefit to the crop. Weeds should be actively growing. A good rule of thumb is that if your grass needs cutting, conditions are right to apply Broadway Star.
