Gleaner combine earns highest sale price at auction

The combine sold after more than 150 bids

A Gleaner combine sold for the highest price during a recent BigIron auction.

The Feb. 7 auction saw the 2015 Gleaner S68 Super Series combine from Sutton, Neb., sell to a buyer from Iowa for US$204,250 (CAD$274,469) after 158 bids.

Specs: 964 engine hours, 670 separator hours, GCO POWER 8.4L Twin-Turbo, 6-cylinder, Water Cooled Diesel Engine, Max Boost 398 Hp, 4-speed w/ 2 Speed Hydrostatic Transmission, Grain Bin Capacity-390 Bu, Variable Speed Header Drive, Lateral Header Tilt, Hydraulic Fore/Aft Reel Adjustment, Single Point Hookup, Electric Concave Adjustment, Corn & Soybean Sieve & Chaffer, Electric Sieve & Chaffer Adjustment, Rock Trap, Reverser, Auto Height Control, Fine Cut Chopper, Heater, AC, Radio, Buddy Seat, Guidance Ready, Air Suspension Operator Seat, Power Extension & Ladders, Hydraulic Folding Bin Extension, Feeder House Debris Deflector, 800/65R32 Front Tires, 18.4R26, Rear Tires.

John Deere and Case IH equipment rounded out the top five items selling for the highest prices during the auction of 827 pieces.

A 2012 John Deere 9510R tractor from Alva, Okla., sold for US$179,250 (CAD$240,912) to a buyer from Texas after 226 bids.

A 20120 John Deere 4730 sprayer from Moorefield, Neb., sold for US$161,750 (CAD$217,583) to a buyer from the same state after 330 bids.

Specs: 1,158 hours, John Deere 9.0L Engine, Hydrostatic Transmission, Stainless Steel Tank, 800 Gallon Gal. A 2004 John Deere 8420 tractor from Newman Grove, Neb., sold for US$156,000 (CAD$209,836) to a buyer from the same state after 158 bids.

A 2003 Case IH MX210 tractor from Sutton, Neb., sold for US$140,350 (CAD$188,622) to a buyer from Kansas after 199 bids.

Let's celebrate Canadian agriculture.

Well, number one, you don't eat without farmers. Farmers put food on the table. And what could be more important than that?

Well, I think it's important that Canadians understand exactly what takes place, what happens to produce this food, no matter what sector you're talking about.

An awful lot of work goes into that. It's important to understand that meat does not come out of a showcase, and milk does not come out of a bottle. It's produced by farmers and hard work.

Canada has the best farmers in the world. And agriculture is vital to Canada.

In 2024, our agriculture and agri-food sector represented $150 billion of Canada's GDP, nearly $100 billion of our exports, and one in nine jobs.

From grains to fruits to dairy and beef, we are truly blessed with an incredible bounty. Having spent my whole life in agriculture, I see so much potential for the sector.

This time last year, I was proud to open our first-ever agriculture and trade office in the Indo-Pacific, the world’s fastest-growing economy, to cement our presence in the region and grow our exports even more. We've also been making historic investments to help our farmers to boost their yields, protect the planet, and earn a fair living.

The world wants more top-quality, sustainable food, and I know our Canadian farmers can deliver. And it's so important that you do that with pride. We need you.

Quite simply, you eat the most top quality food in the world. You do that because of the quality of farmers and ranchers you have in this country.

Just say thank you to a farmer or a rancher. They work very hard, yes, for a living, but also with a sense of pride in what they produce.

That's what Canada's Agriculture Day is all about.
