The 2016 edition of the International Plowing Match (IPM) is in full swing, but organizers are already looking towards next year’s event.

This year’s IPM will come to an end on September 24, but the following day will kick off the road to the 2017 IPM in style.

“We are going to have a cross-county convoy,” Emily Morrison, IPM 2017 marketing coordinator, told Better Farming’s Glenn Ruegg. “The goal is to have 100 tractors (to celebrate the 100th match) to drive from the 51 kilometres from IPM 2016 to the Brussels arena in Huron East.”

The convoy will depart IPM 2016 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 25 and arrive at the Brussels arena by 4 p.m.

At the conclusion of the convoy there will be a harvest dinner around 5:30 p.m., and a variety concert at 7:30 p.m. outlining some of the events already scheduled for IPM 2017.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for kids ages 6 to 12.

There may still be spots available in the parade. Contact Brad and Tina McBride at 519-263-3227 for more information.

White rot, also known as sclerotinia, is a common agricultural fungal disease caused by various virulent species of Sclerotinia. It initially affects the root system (mycelium) before spreading to the aerial parts through the dissemination of spores.

Sclerotinia is undoubtedly a disease of major economic importance, and very damaging in the event of a heavy attack.

All these attacks come from the primary inoculum stored in the soil: sclerotia. These forms of resistance can survive in the soil for over 10 years, maintaining constant contamination of susceptible host crops, causing symptoms on the crop and replenishing the soil inoculum with new sclerotia.
