Partnership aims to advance smart automation for specialty crop farming
Kubota Corporation has made a strategic investment in Agtonomy, a United States–based startup focused on developing automation systems for precision agriculture. This move strengthens their ongoing partnership and supports the growth of smart farming solutions for specialty crops.
Kubota and Agtonomy began working together in 2024, aiming to bring advanced automation technologies into real farming operations. Their collaboration focuses on improving agricultural machinery by combining reliable equipment with modern automation and data systems. The recent investment is intended to speed up innovation and bring these solutions to more farmers.
Specialty crops such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts are mainly grown in California, Oregon, and Washington. These regions are among the most productive agricultural areas in the country.
However, farmers in these areas face several challenges, including increasing input costs, labor shortages, and rising workforce expenses. These issues have created a strong demand for efficient and sustainable farming practices.
Agtonomy specializes in physical artificial intelligence technology designed for specialty crop farming. The company works closely with growers and uses their feedback to develop tools that improve the precision and productivity of daily farm operations.
Its automation platforms are designed to support tasks that save time, reduce labor pressure, and improve consistency in the field.
A major step in this partnership was showcased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. Kubota presented its autonomous M5 Narrow tractor equipped with Agtonomy’s autonomous driving system.
This demonstration showed how automation can be safely and effectively used in real agricultural settings. Following this, Agtonomy’s services were introduced commercially across western US states through Kubota’s machinery dealer network.
