New Agribusiness Event Set for June 2025

Medicine Hat is gearing up to host the first Cypress Farm & Ranch Show (CFRS) from June 12-14, 2025, at the local Exhibition & Stampede grounds.

This event is designed to serve as a vital platform for farmers, ranchers, and exhibitors from across southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan, aiming to foster connections and showcase the latest innovations in agriculture.

Show founder Dave Fiddler expressed excitement about bringing a major agricultural trade show to an area known for its productive farming and ranching. "This show will provide a unique venue for producers and exhibitors to network and explore new opportunities in a market ripe for growth," Fiddler stated.

The event is strategically scheduled alongside the World Professional Chuckwagon Association races, anticipated to draw additional attendees and enhance the experience for all participants. Ron Edwards, General Manager of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, highlighted the significance of hosting the show in Medicine Hat, noting the city's role as a central hub within a large agricultural trading area.

CFRS is set to feature a range of activities including keynote presentations, expert-led panels, and innovative exhibits, all tailored to the interests and challenges of the local agricultural community. Over 41% of farms in the region report significant annual revenues, reflecting the area's commitment to high-quality beef production, diversified cropping, and advanced irrigation systems.

The show not only aims to be a cornerstone event for regional agricultural business but also a catalyst for future growth and innovation within the industry. With its comprehensive programming and strategic partnerships, the Cypress Farm & Ranch Show promises to offer valuable insights and opportunities for attendees looking to advance their agricultural practices and business operations.

Evolution of Beef Cattle Farming

Video: Evolution of Beef Cattle Farming

The Clear Conversations podcast took to the road for a special episode recorded in Nashville during CattleCon, bringing listeners straight into the heart of the cattle industry. Host Tracy Sellers welcomed rancher Steve Wooten of Beatty Canyon Ranch in Colorado for a wide-ranging discussion that blended family history and sustainability, particularly as it relates to the future of beef production.

Sustainability emerged as a central theme of the conversation, a word that Wooten acknowledges can mean very different things depending on who you ask. For him, sustainability starts with the soil. Healthy soil produces healthy grass, which supports efficient cattle capable of producing year after year with minimal external inputs. It’s an approach that equally considers vegetation, animal efficiency, and long-term profitability.

That philosophy aligned naturally with Wooten’s involvement in the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, where he served as a representative for the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. The roundtable brings together the entire beef supply chain—from producers to retailers—along with universities, NGOs, and allied industries. Its goal is not regulation, Wooten emphasized, but collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement.
