Public voting open for BASF program supporting rural community growth

The Growing Home with BASF program has announced three outstanding finalists from Ontario who are working to improve rural communities through meaningful initiatives. The selected organizations are First Beamsville Scouting, Norwich District Curling Club, and Petrolia Community Refrigerator.

This program supports organizations that make a positive impact on rural areas. After receiving many nominations from across Canada, these finalists were chosen for their dedication and strong community contributions. Now, the final winners will be decided through public voting.

The Ontario finalists are:

  • First Beamsville Scouting focuses on youth development by offering outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. Established in 1910, the group helps young people learn leadership, teamwork, and life skills. It also encourages community service and environmental care. The funding would help build an outdoor pavilion and storage space to support future growth. Learn more about First Beamsville Scouting

  • Norwich District Curling Club has served its community for nearly 70 years. Beyond sports, it acts as an important meeting place for farmers and agricultural workers. The club also hosts pesticide training and testing for growers. It is planning a major ice surface upgrade in 2026, supported by volunteers and members. Additionally, it contributes to local food and clothing drives, strengthening community connections. Learn more about Norwich District Curling Club.

  • Petrolia Community Refrigerator works to improve food security. It offers a 24/7 accessible fridge and cupboard for those in need. The organization also hosts cooking events and partners with local farms, food banks, and shelters. It helps reduce food waste by saving large amounts of food that would otherwise go to landfills. Volunteers play a key role in running these services. Learn more about Petrolia Community Refrigerator.

All finalists will receive a share of the $160,000 prize fund. Awards include $25,000 for first place, $10,000 for second place, and $5,000 for third place. Deadline for voting is April 17, and winners will be announced on April 28.
