Rappa Winder Cuts Electric Fencing Time by Up to 80%
Rappa has introduced its vehicle-mounted fencing solution, the Rappa Winder, to the U.S. market, offering a faster and more efficient way to install and retrieve electric fencing.
The system reduces fencing time by up to 80 percent, allowing producers to deploy approximately 650 yards of fencing in under 15 minutes—equivalent to about 10 acres per hour—and remove it again in roughly 10 minutes.
By comparison, completing the same task with a traditional hand reel can take close to two hours. This makes the Rappa Winder particularly well suited for cell, strip, and rotational grazing systems.
The speed of the Winder comes from its unique design. Mounted to an ATV or side-by-side, it is powered directly by the vehicle’s rear wheel, automatically paying out or collecting fencing wire as the vehicle moves.
A built-in tensioning mechanism keeps the wire tight, while an automatic feed system ensures even winding and reduces tangling. The machine can handle one, two, three, four, or six strands of wire at the same time, further improving efficiency.
By significantly cutting labor time and physical effort, the Rappa Winder helps ranches lower costs and redirect labor toward other critical tasks, improving overall productivity.
Hamish Harley, Rappa customer and part owner of Harling Ranching, said, “Because of the time we save using the Rappa Winder, we don’t have to hire in other people to help us out during busy periods, and we can concentrate on a variety of jobs, not just one.”
Rapid fencing changes also benefit pasture management and animal health by supporting faster grazing rotation, improved grass recovery, and better herd protection from hazards and predators.
“Labor shortages and cost increases are impacting cattle operations, so we are really pleased to be able to bring the game-changing Rappa Winder to the North American market. Being able to fence in minutes rather than hours brings extensive benefits and we’ve been busy building a strong distribution network to meet market demand," Rappa Managing Director Nick Cockayne said.
"Rappa Winders and fencing equipment have been successfully used in the UK and Europe for decades. It is tried and tested equipment and we’re delighted to bring it to the USA market. We’ve had such a positive response to the Winder and we’re looking forward to meeting potential customers and distributors at our booth at CattleCon.”
