Galloways in Canada are classified as Galloways, Belted Galloways and White Galloways. The Galloways came to the country from Scotland in 1853 and the others followed in 1950 and 1966, respectively. Galloways have a double coat of hair in the winter, which means they don’t need as much feed in the winter as other breeds. As a result, farmers’ overwintering costs are lower with Galloways.
