New platform helps farmers collect manage and analyse farm data efficiently

The P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture (PEIFA) announced support from the Government of Canada and the Government of Prince Edward Island for AgIntel, a precision agriculture platform designed by farmers for farmers. AgIntel automates data collection, analysis, and management, helping farmers make informed decisions for better efficiency and sustainability.

AgIntel uses in-field sensors and data-transfer technology that works even in rural areas without 5G connectivity. The system collects information on water use, fertilizer application, and carbon storage automatically. All data is analyzed for insights and stored securely, owned by the farmers who produce it.

PEI farmers have long adopted best practices to reduce environmental impact. AgIntel enhances their ability to quantify these improvements, encouraging further adoption of sustainable practices. This results in increased efficiency and profitability for Island farms.

"The PEIFA is building digital infrastructure for Prince Edward Island farmers to help ensure the sustainability of our farms and farm families. Farmers are always evaluating and adopting new technologies and this PEIFA initiative will ensure PEI farmers are working together to own the data that they are producing," said Keisha Rose Topic, President of PEIFA.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) will provide $499,400 under the Agricultural Clean Technology Program to support AgIntel’s hardware and software development. This funding focuses on research, development, demonstration, and commercialization of transformative clean technologies.

"The agriculture industry on Prince Edward Island is stronger when more farmers can access innovative tools, such as digital applications that provide valuable and precise real-time information. This collaboration across governments and industry will help farmers make data-driven decisions to improve profitability and sustainability for years to come," said Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

An additional $249,000 from the Strategic Industry Growth Initiative through Sustainable CAP will support soil sample collection and verification of the Low Carbon Cropping Initiative. This ensures AgIntel generates market-ready carbon credits for farmers who reduce emissions and increase soil carbon.

Funding will allow PEIFA to purchase ten sensor sets for the 2026 season. Farmers interested in participating can contact Meagan Moynagh at PEIFA or visit AgIntel.co to sign up.
