At this year’s Canada’s Farm Show, the best young farmers in Saskatchewan for 2024 will be named. This award celebrates the hard work and innovation of young farmers who are making a big difference in agriculture. The two finalists are E3 Ag Ventures from Riverhurst and Pine Ranch from Morse.

E3 Ag Ventures is a family farm in Riverhurst, near Lake Diefenbaker. Jeff and Riley Ewen are part of the fourth generation running the farm. The farm, started in 1912, has grown to nearly 13,000 acres, with 30% of the land using irrigation.

They grow a mix of crops, such as pulses, oilseeds, and grains. Jeff, who studied Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan, and Riley, a nurse, decided to return to the farm after they got married in 2017.

Jeff now runs a custom farming business with his brother, specializing in growing dry edible beans. They have two daughters, Harper and Ava.

The Ewen family is very involved in their community, helping with the local fire department, wildlife groups, and irrigation boards. Their dedication to farming and the community makes E3 Ag Ventures a strong contender for the award.

Pine Ranch, managed by Cyle and Erika Stewart in Morse, is a busy cattle farm. They raise cows and grass yearlings and are always looking for better ways to farm. Cyle went to college in Montana with a rodeo scholarship and now helps run several farming and cattle organizations.

Erika studied Education at the University of Alberta and loves teaching people about beef farming. She works with various programs to improve farming practices and advocates for the beef industry.

The Stewarts, along with their three daughters, are dedicated to sustainable farming and community involvement, making Pine Ranch a great example of modern farming.

Both families are leading the way in Saskatchewan farming, showing how dedication, hard work, and community spirit can greatly impact them.

The announcement of the 2024 Outstanding Young Farmers at Canada’s Farm Show will celebrate their achievements and inspire others in the farming community.

Be sure to attend Canada’s Farm Show to see these amazing young farmers get the recognition they deserve and learn more about their innovative farming practices.

Video: Dr. Fei Yang Discusses Corn Rootworm, European Corn Borer, and Pest Monitoring

What insect threats are Minnesota corn growers facing, and what research is helping farmers stay ahead of them?

At the 2026 MN Ag Expo, University of Minnesota entomologist Fei Yang shared updates on three Minnesota Corn-supported research projects focused on insect monitoring, seed treatments, and pest resistance.

Current work includes statewide monitoring programs that use pheromone, light, and sticky traps to track key pests such as black cutworm, true armyworm, corn earworm, European corn borer, and corn rootworm. Researchers are also evaluating whether high-rate seed treatments provide effective corn rootworm control and studying the development of resistance in European corn borer populations to Bt corn traits.

These projects help researchers better understand pest pressures across Minnesota and provide farmers with practical information to support informed management decisions.
