US red meat companies connect directly with Mexican buyers at key trade event

U.S. exporters of beef, pork, and lamb recently met face to face with buyers from across Mexico during the second U.S. Red Meat Symposium held in Mexico City. The event was organized by the U.S. Meat Export Federation and aimed to strengthen trade relationships and expand market opportunities for U.S. meat products.

The symposium offered exporters a valuable chance to build personal connections with Mexican buyers. For many small and mid-sized companies, such direct interaction is important. These meetings allow exporters to understand buyer needs more clearly and create trust, which is essential for long-term business growth.

Industry participants highlighted that even a short visit can lead to meaningful partnerships when conversations happen in person.

Mark Spengler of Greater Omaha Packing Company shared that face‑to‑face meetings play an important role in building trust with international buyers. He noted that such events are especially valuable for smaller companies, as they help develop strong business relationships within a short period of time.

The event was supported by several key organizations, including the United States Department of Agriculture, the Beef Checkoff Program, the National Pork Board, and the Nebraska Beef Council. Their support helped bring together producers, exporters, and industry leaders from the United States and Mexico under one platform.

Producers and representatives also used the visit to observe U.S. meat marketing efforts in the Mexican market. Seeing how products are promoted and sold helped participants better understand consumer preferences and retail trends. Many attendees noted that such knowledge can help producers adapt their products to meet market demand more effectively.

Jess Stevens, a National Pork Board member from Ohio, also participated in the discussions and highlighted strong demand for U.S. pork products in the Mexican market. He pointed to growing interest in variety meats and emphasized the importance of maintaining steady supply chains to meet buyer needs.

Demand for U.S. variety meats was another major highlight of the symposium. Industry leaders observed strong interest from Mexican buyers, especially for pork offal. Some local retailers directly requested greater access to these products, showing significant growth potential for this market segment.

Overall, the symposium demonstrated the importance of international trade events in supporting agriculture. By encouraging dialogue, sharing market knowledge, and promoting U.S. products, such events help farmers and exporters grow their global reach while meeting the needs of international consumers.
