USDA invites US exporters to explore West Africa markets

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is now accepting applications for its Agribusiness Trade Mission to Accra, Ghana, scheduled from September 22 to 25, 2026. The application deadline is July 1, 2026.

The trade mission is organized by USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service and aims to help American exporters connect with buyers in fast-growing markets across West Africa. Countries such as Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire are showing rising demand for agricultural products, creating new opportunities for U.S. farmers and businesses.

“This mission to Ghana is a chance to introduce buyers from across West Africa to the highest-quality goods America’s farmers, ranchers, and producers have to offer” said USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke J. Lindberg.

He added, “Expanding our export footprint here brings America’s bounty to new markets and brings new sales back to rural America, building strong farms and communities for generations to come.”

Ghana alone recorded approximately $175 million in imports of U.S. agricultural products in 2025. Poultry and prepared foods currently dominate exports, but the USDA sees strong growth potential in several other sectors.

Key products expected to gain demand include poultry, beef, animal genetics, grains, soybeans, dairy products, milk powders, seafood, and forestry products. There is also growing interest in healthy food ingredients and beverages such as wine and spirits.

During the mission, participants will attend one-on-one business meetings with pre-qualified buyers. They will also receive market briefings, participate in site visits, and attend networking events organized by USDA experts. These activities are designed to help businesses better understand the regional market and build lasting trade relationships.

The mission supports rural economic growth in the United States by increasing exports, creating jobs, and boosting farm income.
