Clean Tech Fertilizer Coming to Ontario Port
V6 Agronomy has partnered with the Port of Johnstown (100 kilometres south of Ottawa) to build a national fertilizer hub. This long-term collaboration should support Canada’s food security, reduce input costs for farmers, and modernize the fertilizer supply chain using clean technologies.
The partnership designates the Port of Johnstown as V6 Agronomy’s Eastern Canadian hub for importing crop nutrition products. With a state-of-the-art terminal set to open by the end of 2025, this move ensures more reliable and cost-efficient access to fertilizers across Canada.
V6 Agronomy's national strategy includes three major focus areas. First, it is building North America's first compound fertilizer granulation facility in Maitland, Ontario. Second, it is working with Trent University to research how enhanced fertilizers can cut emissions and improve soil health. Third, with Mangrove Systems, it is developing digital monitoring tools to track carbon and nitrous oxide emissions and support farmers with climate-friendly practices.
"This isn't just a partnership," said Leslie Drynan, General Manager of the Port. "It's a vision for agricultural infrastructure that aligns with the values of climate resilience, economic opportunity, and regional development."

The Port of Johnstown, with rail and marine connections on the St. Lawrence Seaway, will play a vital role in ensuring timely movement of fertilizers. The new corridor will make product transportation faster and more environmentally friendly.
This partnership promises benefits for farmers, investors, policy leaders, and local communities—providing affordable fertilizers, economic growth, and a pathway toward sustainable farming.
