PA farmers get $3B for eco-friendly practices

In a strategic move to bolster eco-friendly farming, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited Pennsylvania to promote the administration's $3 billion climate-smart grant program. This initiative, part of the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities project, supports over 14,000 farmers nationwide, focusing on practices that significantly reduce carbon emissions.

Vilsack's presentation highlighted the critical role of small farms in the agricultural sector and the increasing challenges they face from larger corporate farms. "It’s time to have a system that works for everyone," Vilsack stated, advocating for a balanced approach to agricultural sustainability and economic viability.

The grant supports a diverse range of agricultural products including beef, milk, soybeans, and timber, reflecting the administration's comprehensive approach to climate-smart agriculture.

Despite facing opposition from Republican critics who claim the program sidesteps necessary congressional oversight, the initiative continues to push forward, with Pennsylvania playing a key role due to its status as a crucial swing state in upcoming elections.

Vilsack’s efforts are part of a larger Democratic strategy to integrate climate awareness with agricultural development, aiming to create a sustainable future for all levels of production.

By funding these projects, the administration seeks to lead by example in the fight against climate change, providing practical solutions for farmers to adapt and thrive in an evolving environmental landscape.

This program not only represents a significant investment in environmental stewardship but also serves as a pivotal element of the broader strategy to secure economic stability for farmers in Pennsylvania and beyond.

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. We also have a part-time employee, Brock. My dad started the farm in 1980. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.

I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
