Voters can cast a ballot until 8pm

Albertans in the three provincial ridings having a by-election can now go vote.

Voting places in Edmonton-Ellerslie, Edmonton-Strathcona, and Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills will be open until 8pm.

Polling projections show the NDP could take two seats, and the UCP poised to capture the other.

The UCP’s seat could come in Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, where Tara Sawyer, a wheat and barley farmer from Acme, Alta., and former chair of Alberta Grains, is the party’s candidate.

May 30 projections from 338Canada.com have the seat as “Safe UCP.”

In the 2023 general election, the UCP’s Nathan Cooper won the riding with 75.1 per cent of the vote.

Cooper accepted a position within Premier Danielle Smith’s government as Alberta’s official representative to the U.S., triggering the by-election.

338Canada.com’s projections show the NDP as the likely winners in Edmonton-Ellerslie and Edmonton-Strathcona.

In Edmonton-Ellerslie during the 2023 provincial election, Rod Loyola won for the NDP with 61.7 per cent of voter support.

And in Edmonton-Strathcona, former NDP Leader Rachel Notley won with 79.7 per cent of the vote.

Former mayor of Calgary and current NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi is running in this riding.

Albertans unsure if they live in one of the three ridings are encouraged to check “Where Do I Vote?” on the Elections Alberta website.
