Advancing Women Conference East 2025 Adds a Touch of History and Heart with Special Film Screening

If you're one of the many loyal attendees of the Advancing Women in Agriculture Conference, planning to join us in Niagara Falls this November, you are in for a special treat. This year, AWC EAST 2025 will feature a heartwarming and historically rich film screening that celebrates the resilience, courage, and contribution of young women in agriculture during one of the most critical periods in modern history.

We are proud to present the documentary: We Lend a Hand: The Forgotten Story of Ontario Farmerettes. Read the article Documentary Sheds Light on Farmerettes who Helped Feed a Nation

This extraordinary film tells the story of 40,000 teenage girls who volunteered to work on Canadian farms during World War II, stepping in to ensure food production continued while men were away at war.

These young women, many from Ontario and Quebec, arrived in Southwestern Ontario with no prior farming experience. Their determination and grit helped feed a nation in crisis.

Now in their late 90s, these remarkable women share their memories in a moving tribute to service, sacrifice, and sisterhood. The film reminds us that service comes in many forms, and the legacy of the Farmerettes deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

Showtime will be Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM. Admission is free with your AWC EAST 2025 registration and name tag.
