The Old Farmer’s Almanac Lives On While Its Namesake Shuts Down
Many media outlets, including Farms.com, have reported that “the farmer’s almanac” is going out of business (Read: Farmers’ Almanac ceasing operation after 208 years), but it may not be the one you thought they were referring to.
“You may have heard that the Farmer’s Almanac, based out of Lewiston, ME, is ceasing publication after an incredible 200+ year run,” says the Old Farmer’s Almanac website.
“Over the years, there has been some confusion between different almanacs, so to be clear: The OLD Farmer’s Almanac isn’t going anywhere. As we have since 1792, during George Washington’s presidency, we will continue to publish our annual edition, while educating and entertaining readers online at Almanac.com.”
The publication that is shutting down is the Farmers’ Almanac, which has been printed annually since 1818. Based in Lewiston, Maine.
“It is with a great appreciation and heartfelt emotions that we write to share some sad news. After more than 200 years of sharing a unique blend of weather, wit and wisdom, we’ve made the very difficult decision to write the final chapter of this historical publication,” reads the farewell message from the Farmers’ Almanac team.
The 2026 edition will be its last, and both its print and digital presence will be discontinued by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, the Old Farmer’s Almanac, based in New Hampshire and first published in 1792, reassured readers that it will continue its tradition of publishing annual editions and maintaining its online presence.
So while one beloved almanac closes its final chapter, another continues to turn the page—ensuring that generations to come will still have access to time-tested advice, weather predictions, and folklore.
