ZenaTech Expands into Solar Sector with New Acquisition

ZenaTech, Inc., a technology solutions provider known for its work in AI-powered drone systems, Drone as a Service (DaaS), enterprise SaaS platforms and quantum computing tools, has announced it has signed an offer to acquire a long-established commercial surveying and 3D mapping firm based in Utah.

The target company specializes in LiDAR processing, drone-driven data collection and large-scale mapping for solar development projects. This planned acquisition marks a major step in ZenaTech’s strategy to expand into the rapidly growing solar infrastructure sector, where drone-based data services are becoming increasingly essential for project planning, engineering and ongoing maintenance.

“Entering the commercial solar development and maintenance sector is a significant milestone for ZenaTech,” said Shaun Passley, Ph.D., CEO of ZenaTech. “Solar infrastructure demands high-precision surveying and rapid data turnaround. This acquisition instantly brings these capabilities to our Drone as a Service platform and expands us into this untapped market to provide scalable, drone-enabled solutions that will drive efficiency and speed.”

The Utah-based company brings advanced capabilities in LiDAR scanning, 3D visualization and high-level drone-supported workflows for major solar developers. Its experience in terrain modeling and virtual site planning aligns with ZenaTech’s plans to enhance automated data delivery using proprietary analytics, automation tools and ZenaDrone platforms. This combined approach is expected to offer improved accuracy, faster processing times and a broader suite of services for commercial customers.

Industry data from Grand View Horizon indicates the solar energy systems market in North America is expanding at a rate exceeding 15% annually. While growth is strong, many solar companies still depend on traditional surveying methods, leaving space for drone automation to help reduce costs and streamline project execution.

To date, ZenaTech has completed 12 U.S. acquisitions and plans to establish 25 DaaS sites by the end of the second quarter of 2026. The company’s DaaS approach allows business and government clients to utilize professional drone services on demand or through subscription models without managing equipment ownership.
