Zoetis plans to acquire Neogen genomics unit to strengthen livestock data tools
Zoetis Inc., a global leader in animal health, announced plans to acquire the animal genomics business of Neogen Corporation for $160 million. The agreement is part of Zoetis’ long-term strategy to expand innovation in livestock health through advanced genetic technology.
The acquisition will help Zoetis strengthen its Precision Animal Health platform, which focuses on using data and technology to improve animal care, productivity, and sustainability. By adding Neogen’s genomic tools and data solutions, Zoetis plans to provide livestock producers with better insights to support healthier animals and more efficient farming systems.
Neogen’s genomics business currently serves customers in more than 120 countries. The company operates laboratories in the United States, Brazil, Australia, China, and the United Kingdom, along with an office in Canada. These facilities provide advanced genetic testing services that help farmers and breeders understand animal performance, disease resistance, and productivity traits.
The genomics division uses modern genotyping technologies and sequencing systems that allow customers to analyze animal DNA quickly and accurately. The business also offers software tools that help producers make better breeding and management decisions based on scientific data.
The company has built a strong reputation in the United States for beef and dairy genomics. Its technologies help producers identify valuable genetic traits that support improved milk production, stronger animal health, and more sustainable livestock operations.
Zoetis leaders say the acquisition will expand their ability to deliver predictive insights and personalized animal care solutions. "The addition of Neogen's genomics business strengthens our commitment to advancing animal health through innovation, data, and technology," said Jamie Brannan, Chief Commercial Officer at Zoetis.
"As we continue to grow our leading innovative solutions in Precision Animal Health, this acquisition brings complementary capabilities that expand predictive insights and individualized care, enabling us to deliver added value to customers," said Brannan.
“Together, we are shaping the future of animal health, empowering customers with the tools they need to support healthier animals and sustainable livestock production globally," said Brannan.
The agreement is expected to close during the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions. Zoetis plans to integrate the business smoothly while maintaining strong support for employees, customers, and ongoing research programs.
Industry experts say the move highlights the growing importance of genomics and data driven tools in modern livestock production.
