Canola fields may soon become a familiar sight in Newfoundland

Canola fields are a familiar sight on the prairies, but they may soon be visible in Newfoundland, too.

Premier Dwight Ball and Forestry and Agrifoods Minister Chris Mitchelmore were on hand Friday for the planting of a canola field at the Western Agriculture Centre and Research Station in Pynn’s Brook.

The goal is to evaluate the crop to test its potential to become a component of both livestock feed in the form of canola meal, and for human consumption as canola oil.
