Capitalizing on growth opportunities to strengthen the economy and create middle class jobs

Government of Canada investment to accelerate social and economic development in municipalities and Indigenous communities in the Timmins–James Bay region
 
Timmins, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor - Municipalities and Indigenous communities, as well as companies in the Timmins–James Bay region will benefit from new infrastructure and business development opportunities thanks to a Government of Canada investment of more than $3.4 million in support of 13 initiatives. Communities and organizations in the region that will benefit from this FedNor funding include Mushkegowuk Council, Timmins Economic Development Corporation, North Bay & District Multicultural Centre, Town of Cochrane, Wahgoshig First Nation, Town of Kirkland Lake, Kirkland and District Community Development Corporation, Township of Black River–Matheson, and Materials Joining Innovation Centre.
 
The funding was announced today by the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and la Francophonie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor.
 
Minister Joly made the announcement as part of a three-day visit to Timmins and Greater Sudbury.
