“It is with great pleasure that we welcome and congratulate these new farming-families into the Ontario chicken industry through the Board’s New Entrant Chicken Farmer program,” said Rehorst. “This program, which supports new and young farmers in joining the industry, provides education, training and mentorship to guide their transition into the industry.”

The successful applicants of the 2020 CFO New Entrant Chicken Farmer program are:
  • The Barfett Family, District 3
  • The Brown Family, District 3
  • The Lupton Family, District 3 and
  • The Snowe Family, District 7

“We are very passionate about producing high quality food in Ontario. This opportunity really provides us with the ability to create a self-sustaining family-farm for ourselves as well as future generations,” said Scott Barfett. Barfett and his brothers, Andrew and Dan, are second generation farmers in the Wallacetown area.

All program finalists come from a wide variety of farming backgrounds and were selected following an extensive application review by a panel of financial and farming experts.

Since 2012, CFO has welcomed 32 new chicken farming families through the program.
