Cornhusker Farmers Plant Record Corn Acres

Nebraska farmers planted a record number of corn acres this year according to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). Corn acres are estimated at 10.3 million, up 2% from last year and surpassing the previous record set in 2021. Soybean acres are estimated at 5.0 million, down 2%. Together, 100,000 fewer acres were planted to corn and soybeans in Nebraska compared to last year. Nationally, NASS says this year’s corn acres, 95.2 million, is the third-largest since 1944. Planted acres to soybeans  estimated at 83.4 million acres, down 4%.

All told, 19.275 million acres in Nebraska are either in crops or hay, down 1% compared to last year and off nearly 3% compared to the most recent high of 19.8 million in 2021. Wheat acres are down 40,000 acres, equaling 960,000, and hay acres are down 5% this year.
