SeedMaster Sponsors Seeding Equipment for Olds College Smart Farm

SeedMaster Manufacturing, Emerald Park, Sask., announced a 10-year partnership with Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, Olds, Alta., to sponsor seeding equipment for the Olds College Smart Farm.

As part of the partnership, SeedMaster will provide Olds College with the SeedMaster toolbar and the UltraPro II 550. The college says it will use the equipment to support their Smart Farm operations, conduct research activities and provide learning opportunities to students in the Heavy Equipment Technician Program as well as other programs it offers.

“By providing the SeedMaster toolbar and UltraPro II 550 on-frame seeding system, we can combine our precise seed placement and uniform product distribution with the college’s cutting-edge research and education programs,” says Tim Criddle, global sales director at SeedMaster.

SeedMaster will provide the equipment to Olds College for the 2024 and 2025 growing seasons and replace it with new equipment with similar specifications in 2-year intervals.

“Without generous donations like this, we would be unable to deliver the education and research needed to support the agriculture industry,” says Todd Ormann, vice president of development at Olds College. “Modern technology like this is critical in developing the learnings around seeding applications that support increased yields and environmental stewardship.”

Video: Kansas Wheat Harvest 2026 | Three John Deere S7 700 Combines in Action

Kansas Wheat Harvest 2026 is underway near Alden, Kansas!

In this video, I spend time with Frederick Harvesting, a custom harvesting operation based in Alden, Kansas. Back at their home farm, three new John Deere S7 700 combines equipped with John Deere HDF40 draper heads work through a drought-stricken winter wheat crop while one of the farm's John Deere 8R 370 tractors pulls a Brent 1398 grain cart.

Most of the Frederick Harvesting crew was already busy cutting wheat in southwest Kansas, but these machines remained at home to finish up local fields. Throughout the video, I explain what is happening, discuss the effects of dry conditions on the crop, and capture plenty of aerial footage showing the combines working with the grain elevator at Alden in the background.
