Fire Destroys Swine Barn in Darke County, Ohio

A fire broke out at a swine barn on Brown Road in Versailles, Ohio, late on Friday evening. Crews from multiple surrounding jurisdictions arrived soon after, as the fire triggered a second- and third-alarm response.

A three-alarm fire call brings triple the amount of firefighters, trucks and equipment to the scene of the fire. Any fire alarm dispatch that goes past two is considered a very big fire that could take considerable time to completely extinguish, according to desert-fire.com.

Versailles Fire Chief Brian Pearson told the Daily Advocate that the fire was contained to one barn. The barn was a newer building that held 1,100 pigs. Although employees were reported to be at the facility, there were no injuries to any humans.

Flames from the fire could be seen from a far distance. Rossburg Fire Chief Rob Widener shared photos to Facebook of the intense fire.

CareFlight was alerted of the fire when a first responder went missing, but the individual was located and CareFlight was called off, the Daily Advocate reports.

Fire departments responded from Ansonia, Greenville, Rossburg and more. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
