Fleck receives Allied Industry Veterinarian of the Year award

Robyn Fleck, DVM, received the American Association of Swine Veterinarians’ Technical Services/Allied Industry Veterinarian of the Year Award during the association’s 57th Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. This award recognizes swine industry veterinarians who have demonstrated an unusual degree of proficiency and effectiveness in delivery of veterinary service to their companies and their clients, as well as given tirelessly in service to the AASV and the swine industry.

As a senior account manager of scientific sales and affairs at Merck Animal Health, Fleck manages corporate account relationships and technology transfer, and she manages generation and distribution of scientific data to support swine vaccine brands. She also provides technical input into and review of marketing materials for swine biologicals and pharmaceuticals.

Prior to joining Merck Animal Health, Fleck held positions with Zoetis as associate director of outcomes research, the National Pork Board as director of swine health programs, Schering-Plough Animal Health as a swine technical services manager, and as a staff veterinarian with Cargill Pork.

Fleck has served on multiple AASV committees, including program planning, influenza, pharmaceutical issues, food safety, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Beyond AASV, she has been a member of the National Agriculture Food Animal Identification Task Force and the United States Animal Identification Plan Subcommittee for Implementation in the Swine Industry. She has also served on the National Pork Board’s Swine Health and Food Safety committees.

Widely regarded as a mentor of exceptional caliber, particularly to students and early-career swine veterinarians, Fleck is a recognized pioneer among women in the swine veterinary profession who has paved the path for others.

Upon acceptance of the award, Fleck commented, “During my first year as a near solo swine practitioner in Arkansas, I was supported by multiple TS vets, including Al Scheidt, Teddi Wolff, Thayer Hoover, Doug Kern and Dave Baum. Their responsiveness, teaching and life coaching inspired me to do the same for other veterinarians. It’s been an honor to similarly serve my colleagues over the years.”
