Hereford bull tops 2026 Iowa Beef Expo sale

Bill Goehring has bought and sold cattle at the Iowa Beef Expo for many years, and one of those purchases paid a big dividend recently. The southeast Iowa producer sold the top-selling Hereford bull at this year’s annual event.

“We bought his sire two years ago, so this is the first bull we have sold from him,” Goehring said. “He’s a good bull and is very sound structurally. His pedigree is excellent.”

The bull brought $15,000 at the sale Feb. 18, part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the Iowa Beef Expo.

Goehring said his customers are looking for several traits, including structural and carcass components.

He said the top-selling bull features strong maternal traits and should produce excellent heifers in the future.

Below are breed sale results from the event.

Angus

  • The top-selling bull, consigned by Moffitt Angus Farm, sold to Wayne Webster.
  • The top-selling female, consigned by Swanton Show Stock, sold to Heidi Kipp.
