Illinois Extension Agronomy Summits Equip Farmers With Strategies for Year Ahead

By Emily Hansen and Kathryn Seebruck et.al

With harvest season behind us and spring planting on the horizon, now is the time to prepare for the year ahead. University of Illinois Extension invites farmers, agronomists, and agriculture professionals to attend one of the upcoming Agronomy Summits across the state in January and February of 2026.

These in-person events provide up-to-date research-based insights from university and industry experts to help producers make informed decisions for the 2026 growing season. Sessions will cover soil health, nutrient management, pest control, crop market outlooks, and emerging technologies in agriculture. Attendees will walk away with practical tools, research updates, and new connections to strengthen their operations.

“Agronomy Summits are designed to bring the latest research and resources directly to local communities,” says Kathryn Seebruck, commercial agriculture educator serving Jo Daviess, Stephenson, and Winnebago counties. “Our goal is to provide timely, relevant information that producers can apply immediately on their farms.”

Farmers who participated in last year’s summit events believed the presentations to be very informative and expressed appreciation for the specificity of topics covered, while agricultural advisors stated the presentations were a great resource that will help them and their farmer clients going forward. The 2026 Agronomy Summits will be held at the following locations across Illinois:

Registration fees vary by location and include lunch and all sessions. Certified Crop Adviser continuing education units will be offered. Register online by individual location.

Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. We also have a part-time employee, Brock. My dad started the farm in 1980. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.

I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.

I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
