ISU Beats the Heat at Meridian Dairy Days

Meridian Dairy Days has a long history of representing the dairy industry in all of Idaho, and has evolved over the years to include more of the community outside of the dairy industry. The farming industry in Idaho is a critical part of the economy, and the event pays homage to the lengthy history the area has with agriculture. Now in its 95th year, the local organization also raises funds for 4-H and FFA scholarships.

Even on a scorching hot weekend, attendance, participation and energy was high over the four-day event, which took place at Storey Park, not too far away from ISU's Meridian campus. Many participants, including ISU alumni, families and prospective students, came by the ISU booth. Many wanted to share stories of their experiences with ISU and to see the swag offerings as well. The booth representatives were prepared to inform visitors about the many academic programs ISU has to offer as well as  the health clinics at the ISU campus in Meridian.

In the parade on Saturday, June 22, Martin Blair, vice president for research and economic development, was interviewed by KTVB News 7 during his tour.

Blair conveyed the excitement and energy well when he said, “ISU has been a part of the Meridian community for many years. Our community partnerships will continue to grow in the years to come. It was exciting to see the community's positive reaction to ISU and especially to Benny the Bengal. Kids and adults wanted their picture with him. We heard "Go Bengals!" and "Roar!" many times along the parade route.

Reporters announcing the parade entries also made many wonderful mentions of the impact that ISU has on the area, as well as the prestigious quality of academics ISU has to offer.

There are many people to thank for being involved, including Marci Miller, Nanette Duncan, Martin Blair, Gabe Bargen, Patty Tryon, Nikkolas Kroon, Tom O’Berry, and also a big thank you to Erik Talbert for sporting the Benny suit in the heat.

Video: Research in Action | Swine Cluster 4 - Activity 8: Precision Feeding with Dr. Aline Remus

Research in Action is a video series from Swine Innovation Porc that highlights the people and projects driving innovation in Canada's pork sector.

In this episode, Dr. Aline Remus (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada) explains how precision feeding is helping producers improve efficiency, reduce feed costs and lower environmental impacts while supporting animal health and welfare.

As part of Swine Cluster 4 - Activity 8, this research is advancing precision livestock farming by tailoring nutrition to the needs of individual pigs or groups of pigs. The project aims to reduce feed costs, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient losses, and develop practical precision feeding systems that producers can confidently adopt on-farm.

By bringing together researchers from across Canada and around the world, this work is helping transform innovative research into practical solutions for a more sustainable and competitive Canadian pork sector.
