Michigan October Agricultural Prices

Prices received by Michigan farmers for the full month of October 2016 are listed in the table below.

Some Michigan highlights were: October corn, at $3.35 per bushel, decreased $0.08 from September and decreased $0.30 from last year; October soybeans, at $9.27 per bushel, decreased $0.40 f rom last month and increased $0.54 from last year; October wheat, at $4.05 per bushel, increased $0.15 from September and decreased $1.56 from last year; October milk, at $15.30 per cwt., decreased $0.90 from last month, and decreased $2.00 from last year.

The October Prices Received Index (Agricultural Production), at 80.8, decreased 6.6 percent from September 2016. The Crop Production Index, at 79.5, decreased 5.4 percent. The Livestock Production Index, at 82.4, decreased 7.1 percent. Producers received lower prices for cattle, broilers, hogs, and milk but higher prices for corn, strawberries, wheat, and sweet corn. Compared with a year earlier, the Prices Received Index is down 9.3 percent. The Crop Production Index decreased 1.0 percent and the Livesto ck Production Index decreased 21 percent. In addition to prices, the indexes are influenced by the monthly mix of commodities producers market. Increased monthly movement of soybeans, corn, and cotton offset the decreased cattle, milk, and broiler sales. T he Food Commodities Index, at 84.2, decreased 6.1 percent from the previous month and is down 10 percent from October 2015.
