NRCS Continues to Fund, Accept Applications for Wildfire Disaster Relief for Wyoming Producers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is committed to ensuring disaster relief funding is available to producers and ranchers who suffered losses in wildfires across Wyoming in 2024. Beginning March 24, NRCS resumed processing applications for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) for wildfire recovery.

“We met with producers throughout the fall who were affected by the wildfires, and we want to expedite assistance,” said Jackie Byam, state conservationist for NRCS in Wyoming. “With the demands and urgency of spring grazing upon us, we’re working to meet the needs of those affected by the wildfires through EQIP.”

In October 2024, NRCS in Wyoming allocated $4 million through EQIP for fire recovery on private lands across the state, with a majority of interest from landowners affected by the House Draw Fires.

NRCS accepts applications year-round for EQIP and other conservation programs, and impacted producers can continue to apply for assistance by contacting the NRCS at their local USDA Service Center.

For nearly 90 years, NRCS has helped farmers, ranchers and forestland owners make investments in their operations and local communities to improve the quality of our air, water, soil, and wildlife habitat.  NRCS uses the latest science and technology to help keep working lands working, boost agricultural economies, and increase the competitiveness of American agriculture. NRCS provides one-on-one, personalized advice and financial assistance and works with producers to help them reach their goals through voluntary, incentive-based conservation programs.

Video: The Next Pork Disease Outbreak? How Biosecurity Can Stop It Before It Starts!

The threat of disease outbreaks remains one of the biggest challenges facing pork producers across North America. At the World Pork Expo, I spoke with Rob Hannam, CEO of Farm Health Guardian, to discuss why biosecurity is more critical than ever and how innovative technology is helping producers reduce risk before disease reaches the farm.
In this interview, Rob explains how Farm Health Guardian's advanced biosecurity platform helps pork operations monitor and manage visitor access, track potential disease exposure pathways, and strengthen on-farm biosecurity protocols. With recent outbreaks of diseases such as ASF, PRRS, PED and others continuing to impact global pork production and ongoing concerns surrounding the spread of endemic diseases, proactive prevention measures have become essential for protecting herd health and business continuity.
Learn how digital biosecurity tools can help producers identify risks, improve compliance, and create stronger defenses against costly disease outbreaks. Discover why leading pork operations are adopting technology-driven biosecurity solutions to safeguard animals, employees, and the future of the industry.
