Ottawa Valley Farm Show to host 360 exhibitors over 3 days; starts March 12

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Valley Farm Show returns to the EY Centre with a full complement of familiar attractions at the agribusiness extravaganza.

The March 12-14 event has lined up over 360 exhibitors with the latest in agricultural products and technology.  “We are full to the brim indoors and outdoors,” coordinator Arlene Ross exclaims. The annual show typically draws 12,000 to 13,000 visitors. It’s an “opportunity to do business with returning exhibitors and with many new exhibitors,” Ross says.

Parking is free at the 200,000-square foot venue, and there’s no shortage of on-site concessionaires to supply meals and treats to the hungry showgoers.

At the core of the event is a traditional seed, feed and forage competition displayed in the flagship ‘Court of Honour’ booth of the Ottawa Valley Seed Growers Association (OVSGA), longtime organizer of the farm show. Be sure to check out the finest entries taken from the fields of the region. The Championship Seed Show Awards ceremony will recognize the very best of them, 11 a.m. on opening day (Tuesday, March 12) in Hall B. At the same time in the nearby south lobby, OVSGA President Barry Dean and Carleton Place’s Keith Bean of Bean Chevrolet Buick will preside over the show’s grand opening.

Two highlight auction events are also returning to the 2024 show. Vintage Iron and Traditions of Eastern Ontario’s annual Toy Auction goes ahead at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, in Hall A. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, the OVSGA hosts its annual CHEO fundraiser, the 32nd Annual Prestigious Pedigreed Seed Auction in the Court of Honour.

A variety of speakers will present on various topics in Hall B during all three days of the show. Of special note is Farm Safety’s Ryan Dick who will explore your responsibilities as an ag employer, 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12.

Farm show tickets are available for $12 online or $15 at the door. Children 12 and under are admitted at no charge.

Video: Crop duster agplane flying action Conger Minnesota Air Tractor Bell 206 Jet Ranger Airailimages

It's summertime in Minnesota as a yellow Air Tractor agricultural application aircraft -- a crop duster -- responds to the control inputs of its pilot in a low-altitude dance just above the tops of the cornstalks. Enjoy! And we found a Bell 206 Long Ranger spray helicopter perched on a support truck at the edge of the cornfields, and launching from there. In our video, you can occasionally hear the rotor sounds of the crop-dusting helicopter as we see the yellow Air Tractor in a nearby field.
