Saskatchewan cattlemen want expansive discussion on land access issues

Cattleman in Saskatchewan are starting to talk more about issues regarding land access.

It’s been said that some cattleman would like to see written permission required from the landowner regarding activities taking place on private land, such as hunting.

Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association Shane Jahnke said this an important issue which will be discussed at his group’s annual meeting, lasting through today and tomorrow in Swift Current.

“We fully support hunting and all the extracurricular activities,” said Jahnke. “But we would really like to see mandatory permission. So when a hunter comes on to your place, they have to ask permission instead of having the oweness on the landowner to post hunting with permission only every 400 yards, or whatever the existing act is in place.”
