Saskatchewan's Outstanding Young Farmers for 2023 - Leguee Farms at Weyburn

Leguee Farms is now managed by the third generation ...  the brother and sister duo of Jake and Sarah and their brother-in-law Erik Nikolejsin.

The trio manage the farm as a team and intensely manage their crops finding new ways to look after their soils and their margins.

Here is the farm bio as submitted by the Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmer's committee.

Leguee Farms was initially established in 1956, when Don and Elsie Leguee bought the home section at Weyburn, SK. Their youngest son, Russ, along with his wife Sharon, took over the farm in the late 1970’s. During his time managing the farm, he started minimum till in the late 1980’s and grew the acreage base by nearly 700%. Russ began phasing the cattle out in the early 2000’s to focus exclusively on crop production.

In the early 2010’s, management of the farm transitioned to generation three, with Russ and Sharon’s children Sarah and Jake fully involved as partners in the operation. In 2017, Erik, husband to Russ and Sharon’s youngest daughter Amber, joined the farm team as well. Today, Sarah, Jake, and Erik manage the farm as a team.

Video: AgTech Innovation at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show

Welcome to Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show AgTech Breakfast. This annual Ontario outdoor farm show has always been a place where innovation thrives.

The AgTech Breakfast takes place every September to create a space where farmers and representatives from startup companies can meet and discuss innovations that bring new options to the agriculture industry. This is a great opportunity for attendees of this event to see what’s new.

At the AgTech Breakfast, attendees hear from a panel of companies, followed by a casual discussion session where farmers and representatives from startup companies can discuss new technology related to farming and share opportunities and challenges that impact Canadian agriculture.

One company featured at the 2024 AgTech Breakfast at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show was VETSon. This company connects producers and veterinarians for one-on-one consultations through online and app technology to improve options for livestock management.
