SDSU Extension hosts swine transporter, producer training during 2023 Pork Congress

SDSU Extension will help swine producers, transporters and handlers update their Pork Quality Assurance (PQA) Plus and Transportation Quality Assurance (TQA) training at the South Dakota Pork Producers Congress in Sioux Falls on Jan. 11, 2023.

The TQA training is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CST and the PQA Plus training is from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. CST. Both trainings are free and will be held at the Sioux Falls Ramkota Hotel and Exhibit Hall, 3200 W. Maple St.

TQA is a certification program that trains people in the swine industry how to handle, move and transport pigs. PQA Plus is an education and certification program designed to help pig farmers and their employees improve production practices. It addresses food and worker safety, animal well-being, environmental stewardship, public health and community.

HEAVY LOAD! Selling Breeding Rams!

Video: HEAVY LOAD! Selling Breeding Rams!

We are selling breeding rams today at Ewetopia Farms. This was quite the heavy load of yearling Suffolk and Dorset rams. Watch as we let the customer select the breeding stock he will use on his ewes at his farm. We ran them free first so he could watch them move, and then it was through the sheep chute to get a closer look at each ram individually. Finally, it was trying to load eleven rams weighing around 300 pounds each on to the trailer - easier said than done!
