Coalition urges Congress to act quickly on E15 policy before summer driving season
A broad coalition of national trade organizations representing ethanol producers, oil refiners, farmers, and fuel retailers is urging Congress to act quickly to support year-round sales of E15 fuel. The groups sent a joint letter to leaders of the newly formed E15 Rural Domestic Energy Council, calling for swift legislative action.
The coalition emphasized that time is limited, as the council is expected to submit its recommendations to the U.S. House by mid-February. The organizations noted that fuel producers and retailers are already planning fuel offerings for the coming year, while farmers are making planting decisions. A clear policy framework is needed before the summer driving season begins.
The groups believe that allowing year-round, nationwide sales of E15 would help lower fuel prices for consumers while also strengthening demand for domestically produced ethanol. They also stressed that stable fuel policies are important for long term investment and efficiency across the transportation fuel sector.
To move quickly, the coalition recommended building on existing legislation known as the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act. The bill addresses outdated rules that restrict summer sales of E15 and seeks to reduce market disruptions caused by certain refinery exemptions under current renewable fuel laws.
According to the coalition, this legislation already has broad support across agriculture, biofuels, fuel retail, and oil refining sectors. They described it as the most practical path to achieving a consensus solution.
The letter was signed by a wide range of organizations representing farmers, fuel retailers, ethanol producers, and refiners. Together, they stressed that a timely legislative fix would benefit consumers, support rural economies, and provide certainty for the U.S. fuel marketplace.
