Highlights of this week's report.

The U.S. corn planting pace improved over the past week, but continues to trail the average pace with a wet start to the growing season in many areas. As of Sunday, the USDA reports 9% of corn is planted, compared to 2% last week and the five year average of 13%.

The Farms.com team travelled across the midwest USA last week through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Indiana and Michigan.  Very little corn was planted and the wet soil conditions had kept farmers from starting field work except in a few pockets.

16% of the winter wheat crop has headed, compared to 15% on average, and 42% of the crop is rated good to excellent, unchanged from a week ago. 36% of spring wheat has been planted, compared to 19% on average.

The USDA expects the first soybean planting estimate of the season in next week’s report.
