Weather Risk Lifts CBOT Grains

CBOT grains closed mostly higher as weaker U.S. crop ratings shifted attention back to weather. December corn gained 6 1/2 cents to $4.80 1/2, supported by western Corn Belt heat, fresh export demand and drought concerns in Europe.

November soybeans added 6 1/4 cents to $12.20 after crop ratings slipped to 63% good to excellent. Gains remained limited by strong Brazilian competition and continued Chinese preference for South American supplies.

September Chicago wheat rose 2 1/2 cents to $6.62 1/2 as Black Sea shipping and insurance risks supported prices. Minneapolis spring wheat eased to $7.02 1/2, with August weather now the key market focus.
