Winnipeg-Based Buhler Industries To Build Bigger Tractors For Kubota

Kubota Corporation has announced its decision to utilize the development and production capabilities of Winnipeg-based Buhler Industries for a new series of tractors.

This new arrangement will enable the addition of tractors in a horsepower range greater than the currently largest M7 170-horsepower line.

"Our in-depth understanding of the realities of Canadian agriculture and the needs of our customers has always been at the core of what we do at Kubota," said Bob Hickey, President of Kubota Canada Ltd. "Today's announcement will allow us to broaden our horizons as our engineers will work with Buhler's employees, in order to develop and produce tractors specific to our local market's needs and tailored for their applications."

New large tractors customized exclusively for Kubota will be introduced to the United States and Canada from the second half of 2019.

Six hundred Canadian farms grow grain for Warburton's under custom contract — and that partnership exists because of Canadian plant breeding. Now the man responsible for maintaining it is sounding the alarm.

Adam Dyck is the program manager for Warburton's Canada, a company that produces over two million loaves of bread a day for more than 20,000 retail locations across the UK. He's watched Canadian wheat deliver thirty years of yield gains and quality advancements that make it worth sourcing at scale — and shipping across the Atlantic. But he's also watching the investment conditions that produced those gains come under pressure. Dyck makes the case for a new funding mechanism that brings both public and private dollars into wheat breeding before Canada's competitive window starts to close.
