Paul Stephen Farmer is a retired British teacher best known for developing the first British school exam in pop music in the 1970s. The exam was given in 1976 to try and motivate students who weren't interested in the current music courses. After administering the exam, Farmer wrote what's said to be the first textbook in pop music, Pop Workbook which he co-wrote with Tony Attwood. In 1997 the Chartered Management Institute gave Farmer membership as a Fellow. In December 2012 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and in June 2013 was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire by The Queen.
