Three students awarded scholarships for advancing agriculture and rural communities

Hensall Co-op has announced the recipients of its 2024 Bright Futures Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes students pursuing post-secondary education in agriculture or fields that benefit rural communities.

This year’s main recipient is Lauren Bradford from South Huron, ON, who is studying for a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Guelph, focusing on Food and Agriculture Business.

Lauren, a former Hensall Co-op summer intern, aims to help farmers grow high-yield crops to support the growing global population.

Due to a high volume of applications, two additional grants were awarded this year. Matthew Peters, attending Fanshawe College, will pursue a diploma in cyber security to help protect farmers and agribusinesses from cyber threats. He is passionate about using his skills to strengthen rural communities.

David Webster from London, ON, is studying veterinary medicine at the Ontario Veterinary College. His goal is to work closely with farmers to improve animal health and promote sustainable farming practices.

The Bright Futures Scholarship provides up to three $2,500 scholarships to students who are children or grandchildren of Hensall Co-op members or employees.

This program aims to support the next generation of leaders in agriculture and rural development, reinforcing the co-op's commitment to education and community growth.
