A man from Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada took an ag approach to asking for his partner’s hand in marriage.
In June 2019, John Neville decided he wanted to grow a carrot inside the diamond ring he bought for his then girlfriend Danielle Squires.
The inspiration came from a the story of an Alberta woman who lost her engagement ring while gardening years ago. Later, her daughter found it in the family’s garden with a carrot grown around it.
John planted the carrot in a bucket in June and cared for the vegetable for about 90 days before popping the question without knowing if the carrot had grown inside the ring.
On the day of the proposal, John asked Danielle to help him pull the carrots out of the bucket and pointed her towards the carrot he hoped had the ring on it.
When Danielle pulled out the carrot with the ring, John got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
“She was a little bit confused for two seconds,” John said in September 2019. “Then her eyes started welling up and she nodded her head yes.”
