Voters in two Western Canadian provinces will head to the polls in October 2024, and ag ministers in those provinces will once again be on the ballot.

Earlier in December, Pam Alexis, B.C.’s minister of agriculture and food, announced her intention to run in the provincial election, scheduled for Oct. 19.

She’s represented the riding of Abbotsford-Mission since 2020 and became the ag minister in Premier David Eby’s cabinet following a cabinet shuffle in December 2022.

“Being the MLA for Abbotsford-Mission is such an honour and I’m so happy with the things we’ve been able to accomplish here,” Alexis told the Mission Record.

Her focus since her appointment, as outlined in her mandate letter, included increasing food security for people in B.C., making B.C. a leader in ag innovation and work with Indigenous Peoples on ag initiatives they’ve identified.

Voters in Saskatchewan will also head to the polls in October 2024.

The provincial election is scheduled for Oct. 28, and David Marit, the province’s ag minister, will be looking to continue representing the riding of Wood River.

In August 2023, the Saskatchewan Party acclaimed Marit as the candidate for the riding.

“Thank you to our Saskatchewan Party members for supporting my candidacy, and to my family and friends for their support,” Marit said in a statement. “I’m ready to continue to stand up for our province and serve as your voice in the Legislature.”

He was first elected as the MLA for Wood River in 2016 and won re-election in 2020.
