
Government officials convened on Feb. 16, 1950 to hear Governor General Harold Alexander’s throne speech which outlined the mandate for Prime Minister Louis Saint Laurent’s government in the second session of Canada’s 21st Parliament.
International issues affected prices for Canadian ag products, and the federal government was ready to act accordingly to ensure producers’ economic viability.
Politicians were told they’d be required to amend the Agricultural Products Act and the Agricultural Prices Support Act.
In addition, the government was asked to consider renewing the existing powers of the Canadian Wheat Board.
