Biostimulant Helps Soybeans Manage Stress and Improve Yield Potential
Soybean growers are continually looking for ways to improve crop performance and protect yield potential. One of the biggest challenges during the growing season is managing plant stress caused by weather conditions, crop protection products, and other environmental factors that can slow plant development.
"There was always a big need to find a way to keep beans from stalling out," said Robert Phillips, an agronomist with Integrated Seed Solutions (ISS). "We had growers planting earlier and pushing management practices, but we would still see beans slow down for two or three weeks after stressful conditions. I started looking for a product that could keep those plants pulling, building nodules and staying healthy."
Agronomists working with a seed and yield enhancement company have been studying methods to help soybean plants remain healthy and productive under stressful conditions. Their research has focused on a soybean biostimulant designed to support plant growth, encourage nodule development, and maintain crop vigor during critical growth stages.
“At Integrated, we focus on two things,” said Robert Clarkz, who guides the ISS research effort. “We focus on seed, and we focus on our Amplify business, which is identifying products that will enhance yield and help build programs to take our growers’ yields to the next level.” ISS’s robust testing program, he says, puts potential products through rigorous research before they ever go to their growers with them.
Field trials conducted over several years have shown promising results. Researchers reported yield increases in soybean fields where the product was used as part of a broader crop management program. The product has since been tested across multiple states and different growing environments, producing consistent results.
According to agronomists involved in the research, one of the most noticeable improvements has been stronger node development and greater pod formation. Increased pod clusters and improved plant structure can contribute to higher yield potential later in the season.
The biostimulant contains amino acids, boron, and other micronutrients that help soybean plants respond to stress. These ingredients are designed to support plant health by promoting balance within the crop and helping plants recover more quickly after stressful events. Fast nutrient uptake is considered an important benefit, allowing plants to access key compounds when they need them most.
Agriculture experts note that modern crop management is no longer focused only on supplying nutrients. Plant health depends on many factors, including hormones, carbohydrates, amino acids, and micronutrients working together. Products that support overall plant balance may help crops remain productive when growing conditions become challenging.
