Nature’s Net Wrap Tackles Plastic Pollution on World Environment Day

Nature’s Net Wrap is helping transform agriculture with the world’s first compostable bale net wrap.

Developed by Western Canadian ranchers Larry and Austin Ruud, this sustainable product addresses a major source of pollution - plastic twine and net wrap, which generate around 2.5 million tons of waste yearly.

CNH Ventures partnered with the Ruuds to bring the innovation to market. Now available through Case IH and New Holland dealers across North America, the wrap is already gaining praise from farmers and researchers alike.

Made from natural fibres and biopolymers, Nature’s Net Wrap is certified compostable and currently patent pending. It offers a powerful alternative to conventional plastic wrap, which often ends up in landfills, gets burned, or pollutes fields and waterways.

Farmers frequently report net wrap clogging equipment like bale processors and manure spreaders—problems this product aims to eliminate.

In early testing, Lakeland College researchers in Canada confirmed its durability and environmental benefits. While not yet widely adopted, it’s clear that Nature’s Net Wrap is gaining traction for its real-world advantages.

“We don’t have to explain to farmers why we brought Nature’s Net Wrap to market. When they see it, they tell us they’ve been looking for this for many years,” said Larry Ruud, co-inventor of the product.

The product launch was highlighted on World Environment Day 2025—a fitting moment for a solution that addresses plastic waste and food chain sustainability.
