Annual report details progress in water, food innovations

In its 15th anniversary year, the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) outlined its progress and future directions in its latest annual report. Key developments include a new USAID-funded $40 million lab dedicated to advancing irrigation and mechanization in the Global South.

The institute has also expanded its water management toolkit with a new multi-state network of flux towers. These towers measure crop-water use and carbon emissions, providing valuable data that influence water resource management and climate policies.

Additionally, DWFI has made significant contributions to major publications on water, climate, and health, reflecting its influence on national and international policy dialogues.

This year, the institute expanded its academic impact, welcoming new faculty and funding numerous students to conduct relevant research.

As DWFI continues to drive forward its mission, it prepares for the upcoming Water for Food Global Conference, aiming to further its contributions to a sustainable future.

Peter G. McCornick, the institute’s executive director, emphasized the collective effort - “Together, we can create a more water and food secure world, ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for generations to come.”
